ITC head calls for action on ITV unity
Article Abstract:
Sir Robin Biggam of the Independent Television Commission wants the UK government to relax ownership rules to allow independent television broadcasters to better compete. He says that the industry cannot wait for a new communications bill to be debated in late 2002 and not enacted until 2003. This means that no mergers could take place in the broadcast industry until 2003, although the main shareholders of ITV (Granada and Carlton) are already suffering from lower ad revenues, and face a cash flow crisis.
