ITV's end of year report
Article Abstract:
ITV Chief Executive Richard Eyre aimed to increase ITV's audience share through his restructuring of the company. Eyre took over at ITV in Autumn 1997. ITV was run by 26 committees and its audience share had dropped by 6% over four years. ITV now has only six committees. Individuals have taken over from committees in areas including sports and marketing, and Eyre has simplified the commissioning process. Industry experts agree that ITV needed restructuring, and many believe that the change is an improvement, but the test of the new regime will be in the ratings for the autumn 1998 schedules.

A matter of factual
Article Abstract:
The UK Independent Television (ITV) network is failing to match the success of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd.) in its factual programme output. This type of programme has proved very popular in the 1990s, but the programmes which doubled factual representation in the top 40 chart, from 5 to 10% between 1993 and 1996, were all from the BBC. ITV is not screening enough documentaries, according to its performance review. It is also running factual programmes during off-peak times and opposite successful BBC soaps, and its output is repetitive and unexciting.
