Article Abstract:
BSkyB has begun expressing interest in purchasing minority stakes in some of the UK's leading independent producers of entertainment television programming. It seems unlikely that BSkyB will receive a very positive response from the independent sector, but it is clear that the company has become strongly aware of the benefits of UK original production. Some observers believe that BSkyB could eventually own stakes in up to six production companies or set up its own in-house production unit.

ITC overcomes disputes to decide Channel 5 winner
Article Abstract:
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) is to announce the winner of the Channel 5 licence shortly, having resolved differences over the issue. It is believed that all four bidders have exceeded the quality levels required to win the licence, which will mean that UKTV will automatically win the licence, unless the committee enforces the special circumstances clause.
