Is competition in TV a fair game?
Article Abstract:
The UK television broadcasting industry has come under close scrutiny from competition authorities on a number of occasions over recent years. This reflects mixed developments in the supply of television services. Some observers are beginning to question whether the authorities are really serious about wanting competition in television, as at present a truly competitive market does not exist. No steps are being taken to encourage pro-competitive behaviour, which would ensure diversity in the source and content of programmes.

Canal+ left in the cold after Amaury pull-out
Article Abstract:
Canal+ is in search of a new partner for its all-news channel following the pullout of Groupe Amaury, the publisher of Le Parisien. Amaury's withdrawal came as the channel was approved and is scheduled to begin on CanalSatellite, a Canal+ unit. Amaury sources said that the company pulled out due to concerns that the effective budget for the channel would be much higher than the estimated of Canal+ at F150 million.

Raising the red flag
Article Abstract:

They believe that there will be even greater opportunities for programme sales as market restrictions are gradually lifted. However, there is growing concern about the quality of programming, and there are still some cultural barriers to international broadcasters seeking entry to China.
