Article Abstract:
Digital cable television (DCT) will be the last of the three digital platforms to become commercially available in the UK. This means that it will struggle to attract digital television customers, according to media consultancy TBS. The three companies planning to offer DCT services - Cable & Wireless Communications, Telewest and NTL - have not yet made a commitment to a launch date. Some observers are more optimistic about DCT, with Henderson Crosthwaite predicting that cable pay television will account for 5.1 million of the 46% of television viewers who will have switched to digital by 2005.

Murdoch eyes new Italian pay-TV deal
Article Abstract:
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp Europe is negotiating with France's Societe Nationale Television Francaise 1 and Canal + about a possible alliance in the Italian digital pay television market. The announcement was made in the wake of Telecom Italia's statement that it had broken off talks aimed at selling 80% of Stream to NCE. Vivendi's Canal + owns 90% of Telepiu, which is Stream's chief rival in the digital market. There have been speculations about a possible merger between Murdoch's British Sky Broadcasting PLC and Canal +.
