Article Abstract:
The Globo Organisation and Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation have formed an alliance to develop a direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service for the Caribbean Basin and Latin America. The service should be introduced by early 1996 and will give Murdoch a truly global satellite distribution network. Latin America comprises around 77 million homes. Other satellite television companies such as Hughes Communications also aim to launch services for Latin America in 1996.

FilmNet set to invest in 40 Dutch channels
Article Abstract:
FilmNet, a subsidiary of Nethold of South Africa, is planing to invest in 40 Dutch TV channels specialising in films ans sport. It is negotiating with 10 major Dutch cable companies to establish a network of regional pay-per view and pay-TV joint ventures. The company already operates film and sports channels in the Netherlands and has also launched into eastern Europe.

SBS will launch 'as soon as possible' to beat Veronica
Article Abstract:
Scandinavian Broadcasting System (SBS) is accelerating plans to launch a Dutch-language commercial cable television channel in partnership with ABC Capital Cities. It now hopes to launch the channel before the planned launch of Veronica, a three-channel commercial network, in Sep 1995. SBS will focus on local production, and plans to offer high-quality Dutch schedules.
