Ministers under pressure to block NI stake in MacKenzie bid for Talk Radio
Article Abstract:
News International has been asked to be ousted from the Talk Radio consortium after an early day motion was called by Nicholas Winterton MP. The move follows NI's stake in Kelvin MacKenzie's proposed offer for Talk Radio. Media Secretary Chris Smith and Trade & Industry Secretary Margaret Beckett have been asked by the Conservative MP to act on the motion, which means that the issue should be aired and that pressure should be put on the ministers. Winterton, who is also chairman of the all-party media group, sought for a full public and parliamentary discussions on the issue.
