Living to air first live auction
Article Abstract:
Auction Channel has forged a carriage deal to air Bonham's auction of British recording artists' memorabilia over Flextech's Living on Sep. 5, 1998. Pre-registered audiences will be able to view the first interactive auction on television, while at the same time making a bid for Britpop memorabilia through the telephone. Due to some setbacks that delayed the full launch of the auction, the soon-to-unveiled channel will now air a string of one-off auction events with varied carriers until a more permanent distribution agreement is arranged. The Auction Channel has forged deals for the rights to broadcast 1,600 other sales, such as auctions by Bonham and Brooks.

English+Pockett launches new media branding and design arm
Article Abstract:
English+Pockett (E+P) has organized a new media branding and design division that is intended to complement its recently launched commercials unit, ep.com, as well as its on and off-air broadcast identity business. Daryll Pockett, chief executive of E+P, said the new unit will concentrate its services on interactive digital television rather than on the Internet and CR-ROMs. The new division will be headed by designer Federico Gaggio, who was the head designer of the on-air identity for US broadcaster Tele-TV that won a gold award at the BDA awards in Chicago, IL.

Ten percenters
Article Abstract:
Senior black and asian executives are calling for the introduction of targets for employing ethnic minorities in UK broadcasting industry in June 1998. A figure of 10% of top broadcasting jobs has been suggested, but ethnic groups claim this figure is unattainable because of the culture of broadcasting in the UK. Independent sectors offers greater choices for ethnic minorities, although many wish to remain on the creative rather than management side.
