Local call for CNN
Article Abstract:
CNN faces extremely strong competition in South and Central America, the US, Europe and Asia, according to Tom Johnson, the company's president, chairman and chief executive officer. It is determined to retain its very strong position in high-profile news coverage. Its strategy will include giving a more localised feel to CNN International, and it plans more dedicated news output for its three regional feeds from the US to Latin America, Europe and Asia. Johnson believes that competition has made CNN stronger and that the company has a strong competitive spirit.

Article Abstract:
The television broadcasting industry in the UK has become more competitive over recent years, according to June Dromgoole, head of purchased programmes, BBC TV. However, she does not feel that new channels will necessarily have a significant impact on the way the BBC operates, and is happy to share costs with the secondary market. She is currently responsible for purchasing material for around 23% of the combined schedules of BBC1 and BBC2, and is therefore one of the top buyers in the industry.
