MTE picks Baker to replace Rayson

Mayfair Television Entertainment (MTE) has named Alison Baker as vice president of sales and programming to replace former managing director Alan Rayson who resigned in July 1998. Baker, who is currently the sales director of Polygram Television International, will joint MTE in November 1998. Daniel Weinzweig, chief executive of MTE, gave the assurance that the company will continue to be a supplier of quality programmes. He likewise presented a 2.96-million pounds sterling worth of new programming line-up for Mipcom including the 26 x 60-minute family drama "Sea Change" and the 13 x 60 minute murder mystery "Duggan."

Initial targets kids with new venture

Initial, a subsidiary of GMG Endemol Entertainment, will work on the third-run production of its successful children's comedy-drama, "No Sweat." The show, which was aired for two nine-part series on BBC 1, will be produced by Initial's new stand-alone children's unit, Initial Kids. Pilkington, executive producer of BBC children's light entertainment and executive producer of "No Sweat," will join Initial to work with executive Ken Bolam for the series. Initial's other projects for children include "Wildtrack" and "Comin' Atcha," which will both be aired on Children's ITV.

Endemol seals deal and aims to expand

Endemol Entertainment, a Dutch production company, has officially signed a contract to purchase a 50% interest in Broadcast Communications (BC) from Guardian Media Group (GMG). In announcing the deal, which was signed four months after it was first revealed, BC chief executive Tom Barnicoat stated that the new production and distribution joint venture aims to undertake a major expansion starting in autumn of 1998. The new entity is now in charge of BC and its roster of independent companies such as Bazal and Initial.
