New visions for Emerald Isle
Article Abstract:
In Ireland, public service broadcaster Radio Teilifis Eireann (RTE) is concerned that new legislation due to come into force in early 1997 will allow a new regulatory body to oversee the broadcasting industry. RTE showed a deficit for 1995 of 2.5 million pounds sterling and is expecting to face increased costs on independent productions and TV sports events, increasing speculation that competition will weaken the Irish quality of RTE.
