Open newsroom planned for C4 flagship
Article Abstract:
Channel 4 is expected to relaunch its flagship Channel 4 News on Jan. 4, 1999, featuring an open newsroom as the background of main anchor Jon Snow. A larger news studio is also being constructed by ITN, the provider of the program, at its headquarters at Gray's Inn Road, to establish various focal points for the program such as a traditional news desk as well as a more informal area for discussions and interviews. All of the facilities of Channel 4 News, including the studio, newsroom and edit suits, will also be placed on the same floor. The program will retain the music it has been using although producers are considering to change its introduction format.

C4 commissioners face regional targets
Article Abstract:
Channel 4 (C4) has assigned regional production targets to its commissioning editors in an effort to boost its investment with independent television producers from outside London, UK. The regional targets were also given to pressure C4 in complying with its commitment to develop 30% of its productions from outside London, UK by 2002, which is included in its license agreement with the Independent Television Commission. The plan also calls for C4 to increase its expenditure by 1% annually from its latest spend of 25% in the assigned regions. C4 is committed to spend 80 million pounds sterling by 1999 as target.
