Out of the regions
Article Abstract:
Six of the top 30 independent television program production companies in the UK -- as measured by hours of programming output -- are based outside London. This attests to a healthy regional industry, led by Glasgow, Wales, Leeds and Birmingham. The majority of regional producers make shows for national as well as local broadcast. There is some debate, however, over the future of the regionals. The top five regional production companies are Tinopolis (700 hours of programming in 2002), Mersey TV (364 hours), Tell-Tale Productions (347 hours), Ragdoll (150 hours) and Tern Television Productions (104.25 hours).
