Article Abstract:
In the UK, regional television broadcasting has traditionally been carried out by terrestrial channels, but, increasingly, cable TV operators are turning to local channels and services to boost their customer-base in a competitive market. However, although there may be demand for such services, they are always likely to be loss-leaders, generating little revenue but being used as a marketing tool by cable operators.

BBC Wales has been able to commission programmes for both Welsh-language television and radio by sharing resources. The basic material is the same, enabling production costs and funding to be reduced. Independent producers benefit from dual production while investments are maximised. Examples of bimedia have included S4C's Welsh music documentary Y Felinbop which was also transmitted by Radio Cymru.

That's Magic

Emap Radio is relaunching its commercial radio stations in Yorkshire, England, in order to attract younger listeners. The company's AM radio stations in Leeds, Sheffield and Hull are to be rebranded under the Magic label. The move is aimed at uniting Emap's diverse group of local radio stations. The expansion of the Magic branding is to be backed by a 1 million pounds sterling advertising campaign.
