Pathe plans to step up its Euro holdings
Article Abstract:
Pathe, which holds a 17% interest in BSkyB, intends to expand its ownership holdings in European broadcast businesses. While Pathe chairman Jerome Seydoux notes that the firm is seeking to acquire control of a terrestrial TV channel that it intends to operate, Pathe plans to boost its stake in Canal+, where it maintains a 20% interest in digital broadcast subsidairy CanalSatellite. Kirch in talks about European digital deal
Article Abstract:
The Kirch Group is negotiating with three industry executives Prince Walid Ibn Tala Ibn Abd el-Assis, Rupert Murdoch and Silvio Berlusconi regarding its plan to introduce DF1, a digital service in Europe, and dBox via a joint venture. The talks, however, is speculated in Germany to be a deception aimed at European and local politicians, and at pressuring Bertelsmann's to agree to a joint venture with Kirch. If the deal pushes through, politicians could lose their influence on policy making while Bertelsmann could lose its local market.
