Intergraph unwraps Wildcat

Intergraph Computer Systems has unveiled new 3D graphics technology, dubbed as Wildcat 3D, during this year's Siggraph Convention in Orlando, FL. Wildcat 3D is slated for commercial launch by the end of 1998 based on Intergraph's ParaScale 3D computer architecture. The technology has a claimed score of 208 in the CDRS Viewperf for the entry level Intense Wildcat 4100, which will have a UK tag price of less than 2,500 pounds sterling. Workstations equipped with the Wildcat technology, on the other hand, could be available for under 6,500 pounds sterling.

Silicon Graphics (SGI) has announced a move to cut the prices of its Unix-based workstation range during the recent Siggraph Convention in Orlando, FL. The price of SGI's Octane range will be slashed between 13% to 36%, with the top of the range Octane SSE receiving the biggest cut from $38,995 to just below $25,000. The biggest cuts will be adopted on the company's high-end Onyx2 deskside super computer, which dropped by over 45% to over $70,000 for a system equipped with two MIPS 250MHz R10000.
