Sky signs 100,00 digital subscribers
Article Abstract:
BSkyB's digital satellite television (DST) service has secured 104,000 subscribers since its launching on October 1, 1998, according to company CEO Mark Booth. Booth, who announced the figures at BSKyB's annual general meeting, said 65,000 of those subscribers are already connected while 30,000 of the 104,000 were new subscribers. Meanwhile, Booth also announced that the firm is hiring 1,700 new customer service representatives to hasten the installations, which were apparently delayed. BSkyB, which targets to attract a total of 200,000 digital clients by Christmas 1998, however, reported a 16% drop in its pre-tax earnings due to significant costs related to the launching of its DST service.
