Portuguese television: the politics of savage deregulation
Article Abstract:
Deregulation of Portuguese audio visual industry has not lessened the negative effects of competition between private and public television and has also failed to promote indigenous production of fictional programs. The deregulation law does not impose any conditions on programming and fails to protect the national cinema. Analysis of a week's programing in Portuguese television reflects the country's dependence on foreign programs, especially programs from the US and Brazil.
