Rant or reason?
Article Abstract:
UK radio is unoriginal, boring and repetitive, according to Sir Bob Geldof, who attacked the industry at the Radio Festival held in July 1998. Geldof claimed radio stations where too concerned about audience figures, leaving the quality of radio programming to suffer as a consequence. He criticised licence distributors for failing to have the courage to back new and innovative stations. Geldof founded radio and television production company Planet 24, which discovered Chris Evans, who went to create innovative television and radio shows.

Bulletin bored?
Article Abstract:
UK television news programmes need to evolve to meet the growing challenge from digital television, according to industry experts, who claim the genre is loosing its appeal because of the increasing amount of twenty-four hour news coverage programmes available on satellite and cable stations. ITV's flagship News at Ten programme recorded a drop in viewing figures from an average 7.5 million viewers in 1987 to an average six million viewers by 1997. All major news programmes have been revamped in the run up to the digital revolution.
