The BBC has announced plans to move into digital broadcasting. A document entitled 'Extending Choice in the Digital Age' has been released by director John Birt. The announcement coincides with a similar one by BSkyB. The BBC expects to retain a 33% share of listening and viewing figures in the UK by the year 2005, compared to its current 45% share. The BBC plans to fund its expansion plans with increased subscription revenue.

In a bid to increase its audience ratings, the British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd. (BBC) is restructuring its daytime programming. The BBC will focus on revamping its morning schedules, which have failed to gain ratings against ITV's popular programme 'This Morning', which has an audience of around 2.1 million. It is expected that the new schedule will be launched in autumn 1996.
