Article Abstract:
Soap operas are expected to change their target audience to cater for the fragmentation of the market which will occur as more television channels are created. Niche audiences such as homosexuals, teenagers, sports fanatics and ethnic families are being considered by program producers. The expected medium for the niche soap is cable or satellite, and program frequencies will vary from two to five nights per week.
