Tough times, tough measures
Article Abstract:
Strategies used by BBC and ITV to survive the difficult times in 2005 are discussed. BBC opted to lay off almost 3,000 employees in its production units, apart from implementing measures resulting in savings by improving overall efficiency. ITV chose to increase its Freeview capacity during the same period. The progress on implementation of digital television in United Kingdom during 2005 is also reviewed. The appointments and removal of top executives in the broadcasting industry are also mentioned.
