Transmission of exotic fish viruses: the relative risks of wild and cultured bait
Article Abstract:
A possibility is seen that the baitfish coming from the Pacific coast of North America might be infected with the viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV), and also that the spring viremia of carp virus is transmitted to other fishes through cultured baitfish. The Aquaculture/Fisheries Center checks the culture conditions and the health of the commercial baitfish, thus reducing the risk of fishes getting infected with the viruses.
