UK Play reveals its first slate of shows
Article Abstract:
UK Play, the digital pay-television channel of BBC/Flextech, will launch a new line-up of 14 original series in October 1998. The line-up includes Funny Noise that will be aired starting October 10, 1998, and The Alphabet Show that will be produced by Drew Pearce with Sebastian Scott as executive producer. UK Play commissioned independent producer Brighter Pictures to develop two original shows respectively titled Foreplay and Freestyle, which will be produced by Shirani Sabratnam with Remy Blumenfeld as executive producer. Other programs in the line-up include TOTP Plus and The Phone Zone.

Flischel gains promotion to Nickelodeon International
Article Abstract:
Nickelodeon Europe's managing director, Karen Flischel, is the new managing director of Nickelodeon International, a move that broadens her responsibilities to include the management of the firm's four international channels, programming blocks in four company territories and international program sales. Flischel, who will maintain her office at the firm's London, UK, office, is credited for the establishment of Nickelodeon Australia as its CEO in October 1995. She is expected to work with Bill Roedy, president of MTV/VH1, in coming up with MTV Networks' international strategy.

UKTV boosts hours on Style and Arena
Article Abstract:
UKTV, a pay television joint venture of BBC/Flextech will extend the transmission hours of UK Style and UK Arena by six hours daily. Under the plan, UK Style, the leisure and lifestyle channel, will air for 18 hours from 07.00 to 01.00, whereas UK Arena will be available for 12 hours from 15.00 to 03.00 daily. UKTV executives are said to be finalizing agreements with cable operators for the extension of broadcasting hours. The move is seen as preparation for the start of digital platforms of channels later in 1998.
