Australia's new minehunters
Article Abstract:
The construction of the Australian HUON class of minehunters was awarded to ADI Ltd in Aug 1994. On Jun 24, 1998 the HUON minehunders conducted sea tests off the shores of Newcastle, Australia. The HUON ships' design are adapted from Italian GAETA class and its hull and platforms are also based on Italian designs. The sensors and combat systems were supplied by the British while its mine disposal system is from Scandinavia. The HUON program resulted in a large amount of technology transfer to Australian firms since 68% of the work was done in Australia.

Viking - the future Nordic submarine?
Article Abstract:
The defense ministers of Norway, Denmark and Sweden agreed in the later part of 1994 to cooperate in the development of a new submarine called Submarine 2000. Their agreement came after the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration awarded a development contract to Kockums Submarine Systems for the new submarine. The submarine development agreement among the Nordic countries will start with an intial study and concept phase in they will examine the possibility of a design which could address their common defense requirements.

Article Abstract:
The HNoMS MAL0Y represents the Norwegian Navy's most modern and youngest warship. The vessel, which was commissioned on Mar 24, 1995, and has logged more than 30,000 nautical miles, is the third in the OKS0Y Class series of four surface effect ship (SES) minehunters and five ALTA Class SES minesweepers. The MAL0Y uses a waterjet propulsion system, is 55.2-m long and 13.55-m wide and has a displacement of 376 tons. Its maneuverability compensates for its considerable width.
