Contracts `cake' should be shared, says Italian executive
Article Abstract:
An Alenia official said naval contracts should be allocated to assure every shipyard a piece of the shrinking business. Robert Olivetti, sales director at Alenia's Naval Systems Division, said that it is important to ensure the survival of companies because it would be too hard to replace their skilled workforce once the world economy begins to pick up. Alenia, meanwhile, hopes to join one of the companies vying for the Norwegian surface ship contract.

Australia's new minehunter
Article Abstract:
The Royal Australian Navy has received the first of six new coastal minehunting vessels from prime contractor ADI Ltd (Australia). The hull of HMAS Huon was built at Intermarine's Saranza shipyard in Italy and was fitted out with the Thomson Marconi Sonar Ltd Type 2093 variable depth sonar and other equipment at ADI's Newcastle shipyard. The Huon-class design is derived from Intermarine's Gaeta-class MHCs currently used by the Italian Navy.
