Ballistic missile proliferation: a flight of fantasy or fear?
Article Abstract:
The continuing ballistic missile programmes of developing countries such as Iran and North Korea put countries in Europe and North America at risk. This rapidly growing ballistic missile threat could also split a military alliance by attacking countries, such as NATO-affiliated nations, whose military involvement is merely by affiliation with countries having active military participation against countries such as North Korea and Iran. Advanced planning and a carefully prepared stategy could help western governments alleviate the public's anxiety and fear over a potential ballistic missile attack.

Pakistan tests 'Chinese/North Korean-based missiles'
Article Abstract:
Pakistan conducted flight tests of the 2,000- to 2,300-km range Ghauri II/Hatf VI missile on Apr 14, 1999, and the 750-km range Shaheen I/Hatf IV on Apr 15, 1999 in response to India's Agni II launch in Apr 11, 1999. The Ghauri II surface-to-surface missile is an upgraded version of the 1,500- km range Ghauri I launched in Apr 1998. It uses liquid fuel and might possibly be based on North Korean missile technology, with its guidance systems possibly being provided by China.

Too close for comfort: ballistic ambitions in South Asia
Article Abstract:
Ballistic programmes of both India and Pakistan are causing concerns among their South Asian neighbors. India seems to enjoy an advantage in terms of missile programmes with its bid to enter full-scale production when it finishes five more tests of the 2,500-km range Agni missile programme. Unlike India which boasts of a space programme, Pakistan relies on its purchases of missile technology from the People's Republic of China.
