The Navy-Marine Team and Northrop Grumman Ship Systems Ingalls Operations in Pascagoula celebrated the start of the fabrication phase of LHD 8 on 22 May 2003. The LHD 8 is the warship that will lead the transformation of the Navy's 'big deck' expeditionary force.
