Effects-Based Operations (EBO) and other schemes for sterilized techno-wars have surprised deep roots in the US military culture. The origin of EBO can be rooted in the 19th-century cult of Gen. George B. McClellan's favorite military theorist, Baron Antoine Henri Jomini, the Swiss born, French-speaking military charlatan who seduced the engineers produced by West Point with his geometrical 'the calculus is all' approach to warfare.
