Canadian navy pursues additional investigations into Chicoutimi fire

The Canadian Navy said that the board will consider additional testimony respecting crew decisions and actions surrounding the repair of the submarine 'HMCS Chicoutimi's' upper lid vent including the context within which these decisions and actions occurred. The board of inquiry said in its report that the fire, which broke into the submarine, left it powerless in the North Atlantic and nine of her crew members suffered smoke inhalation, while one died on way to hospital.

Canadian submarine back at sea
Article Abstract:
The Canadian navy has sent back its two operational Victoria-class submarines to sea after the Canadian Board of Inquiry found no technical or personnel fault for the fire on board HMCS Chicoutimi in October 2004. The submarine completed its 17 days of sea time during which the Canadian Navy was able to qualify eight new submarines, as well as continue the programme to integrate Mk 48 torpedoes with a new fire-control system.
