Commentary on the Hogaboom Board: the evolution of close air support in Vietnam is revisited
Article Abstract:
The Hogaboom Board examined the effectiveness of close air support during the Vietnam War, and in several cases decisions made by the commanders proved to be even more effective that changes implemented in the 1950s. One decision to allow Marine Corps air units more independence in decision-making resulted in fewer delays and better efficiency, and another decision that withheld some aircraft to provide protection elsewhere also proved to be sensible.
