Covered by fire: The new face of mine warfare at sea
Article Abstract:
The addition of antiship missiles to naval mine operations poses a serious threat and challenge to the Naval Services. Although ship-to-objective maneuver innovations have proven effective in earlier operations, they are not enough against a highly-integrated mine-and-missile defense. Antiship missiles have already proven their capability with the Iraqi SCUDS in the 1991 Gulf War. Thus, naval forces must not neglect the possibility of their presence in maritime operations.

The impact of emerging munitions technology on 21st century warfare
Article Abstract:
Emerging munitions technology appears likely to significantly alter the way war is waged in the 21st century. During the Gulf War, the US forces used strategic air power and precision attacks against Iraqi soldiers. In the 21st century, advanced munitions will again play a significant role on how war is conducted. Warfare in the 21st century will be marked by the use of standoff weapons and relatively simple platforms to deliver sophisticated munitions.

F/A-18D & AH-1W designate for copperhead
Article Abstract:
An FA-18D and AH-1W were used to laser designate targets for 10 Copperhead cannon-launched guided projectiles during a Weapons and Tactics Instructor course in 1998. Results indicate that the F/A-18D can effectively designate for Copperhead and may be ideal for deep payoff targets. The AH-1W, on the other hand, can offer maneuverability and more effective lasers compared to ground-based laser systems.
