The presidential elections on 3 December 2006 might allow Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to continue his policy of pursuing oil-based diplomacy abroad and to use it to win domestic support at home. The oil prices will be vital for Venezuela's stability because an increase or drop will have a direct influence on political support for the president.
