Article Abstract:
The Italian government has finally addressed a serious gap in the Italian Army's military inventory by awarding an infantry fighting vehicle development program involving the development and production of VCC-80 DARDO tracked and armored vehicles to OTOBreda. Roughly $60 million from the 1999 defense budget has been earmarked for the program, which will continuethrough 2015 and deliver 800 DARDO vehicles to the Italian Army. The DARDO will progressively replace part of the Italian Army's aging fleet of VCC-1 and VCC-2 infantry fighting vehicles.
