US navy leaders are preparing to provide regional combatant commanders a host of new units and skills tailored to support a range of new capabilities for the war on terrorism. The service will redirect millions of dollars in the 2006 budget and assign new responsibilities to hundreds of sailors by reconstitution its brown-water capability by creating new small-boat units to patrol rivers.
