Empowering the tactical level of war: the ELB ACTD
Article Abstract:
The wireless wide area digital network (WARNET) was demonstrated by the Extending the Littoral Battlespace Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ELB ACTD). The design of WARNET and ELB C4ISR system involved the integration of more than 30 subsystems. The design also required the outfitting of three ships to include a technology test bed aboard the USS Coronado, creating two mobile command centers in combat vehicles, designing systems for dismounted Marines and integrating modeling and simulation.

Enhanced combat communications for the Marine Aircraft Wing
Article Abstract:
The deployment of the super high-frequency (SHF) triband advanced range extension terminal (STAR-T) as a replacement for the AN/TRC-170 SHF, multi-channel radio terminal will provide the Marine aircarft wing with the communications capability that the service requires. The long-haul, multi-channel satellite STAR-T is a HMMWV-mounted system that is capable of providing both military and commercial satellite communications for distances beyond 100 miles.

The Direct Air Support Center: 'The Welder's Torch'
Article Abstract:
The addition of the AN/TSQ-207 communications air support central system (CASC) has upgraded the capability of the US Marine Corps' direct air support centers (DASC) to the standards of modern technology. This has permitted DASC to provide better air support to the ground combat element (GCE) of the Marine air-ground task force. CASC deployment has also contributed to the provision of closer and more focused direct air support to GCEs.
