Major General Gordon C. Nash, US Marine Corps, Director Expeditionary Warfare Division, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, is responsible for diverse mission areas associated with expeditionary warfare. He believes that the Navy's expeditionary warfare capabilities can be improved only when the Navy and the Marine Corps transform their expeditionary forces through the seabasing concept of operations.

Conventional submarines today and tomorrow

The global security system such as the armed forces has changed with the new security environment in order to better respond to the new threats of the 21st century. Some of the future missions of the conventional submarine are covert forward intelligence gathering and surveillance, mine countermeasure operations and supporting units ashore with indirect fires using Stand-off Land Attack Missiles (SLAM).

Stealth in modern naval warfare

Naval fleets around the world are acquiring new-generation surface warship designs possessing low-observable (stealth) technologies. Stealth warships are being developed with advanced sensors and weapons, silent propulsion systems, and secure communications systems, with the challenge being to deploy such warships within dangerous environments.
