'Alfonso Cano' is appointed as the new head of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and this movement is keen to develop contacts with legal leftwing political parties. This is a delicate moment of the FARC, which is under pressure from a US-backed government offensive and lacks public support.

Colombian police detain suspected 'suicide bomber'
Article Abstract:
Luis Hipolito Ospina Guzman, aged 43 was arrested in Bogota on 15 March 2004. He was a Muslim member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revoluclonarias de Colombia ' FARC) and provided evidence of an apparent attempt to train and indoctrinate young Colombians as suicide bombers.
