ColombiaEs warring factions, namely, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia-FARC) are among the richest illegal armies in the world, raising money from drugs, kidnapping, extortion and robbery and reporting estimated annual earnings ranging from US $400 million to $1 billion. The taxation mechanisms and other revenue-generating operations used by the insurgents and paramilitary groups are examined.
