Firefinder falls short
Article Abstract:
The inability of the 20-year-old An/TPQ-37 Firefinder Weapon Loading System to detect mortar rounds during its deployment in Iraq in spite of it being brought up-to-date with new software is highlighted. Several factors contributed to its poor performance and the U.S. Army and officials at Thales Raytheon are separately attempting to correct these but this situation has the Army re-evaluating its future mortar detection systems.
