Future ship designers should think about replenishment now
Article Abstract:
Designers of future military ships should incorporate replenishment needs into their designs, according to a report entitled 'The Next Underway Replenishment System.' The report said that the existing underway replenishment system (UNREP), developed almost three decades ago, is now inadequate. Operational goals for the next UNREP should include capabilities to simultaneously conduct rearming and refueling, replenish battle groups without delaying combat operations and anytime a battle group ship is available.
