Germany seeks surveillance from SIMONE
Article Abstract:
The German Navy's proposed F125 frigates should be fitted with a 360 degree infrared surveillance system named 'ship's infrared monitoring, observation and navigation equipment' (SIMONE), in order to enhance their force protection and security for stabilization operations. SIMONE system, developed by Diehl BGT Defence, is designed on the basis of passive, staring infrared sensors to provide automatic early detection of potential asymmetric threats like special forces, terrorists or pirates approaching from the sea, ashore or from the air.

Dutch navy installs its Mk 2 VARIANT 2-D radar on LPD
Article Abstract:
The Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) installed the Mk 2 model VARIANT 2-D air and surface surveillance radar on the 16,680-tonne landing platform dock (LPD) Johan de Witt in August 2006. The Mk 2 model of VARIANT comes with a helicopter or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) guidance and approach control functionality and an open standard interface when compared to the original VARIANT, which enables it to serve as the main surveillance sensor on amphibious or support ships, and also the secondary surveillance sensor on destroyers or frigates.
