The Turkish invasion of Cyprus: a forerunner of the OMFTS
Article Abstract:
The operational-maneuver-from-the-sea (OMFTS) concept is a new warfighting strategy elaborated by the Marine Corps and involves naval amphibious and heliborne landing forces maneuvering from positions at sea to either deep inline or coastline objectives. The Turkish invasion of Cyprus beginning on Jul 20, 1974, presents a unique case for an analysis of the OMFTS concept, its strengths and weaknesses, and its component ship-to-objective-maneuver concept.
