Igli Tosca, Albanian Minister of Public Order
Article Abstract:
Igli Tosca, Albanian Minister of Public Order, talked about a range of linked security challenges centering on organized crime, porous land, and maritime borders, corruption, small-arms proliferation and pan-Albanian extremism. He describes that regional co-operation is the core element of activity and he is confident that despite many challenges Albania will be a factor of stability in the region, not only in terms of counter-trafficking but also in terms of joint operations against criminal networks.

Albanian traffickers provide back door to Schengen zone
Article Abstract:
Illegal human trafficking has seized the imagination of international law enforcement agencies and the death of 20 illegal immigrants in the sea of Albania in January 2004 brought this country into a sharp focus. Armed with the latest weapons, the traffickers have many ingenuous methods to avoid capture where local gangs are used to facilitate crossing in international waters. While security forces' response is improving, the advantage lies firmly with the traffickers.
