In defense of Marine Air
Article Abstract:
The Marine Corps has faced severe criticism in the past with critics aiming to reduce Marine aviation to an all-attack and helicopter force due to the belief that a tradeoff of tactical aircraft and mechanization of ground forces would be in the Marine Corps best interests. However, the requirement of a sea-based air component in combat missions, the role of Marine aviation in future land campaigns and the multitude of functions performed such as antiair warfare, offensive air support and assault support, to name a few, render these arguments redundant.

Preparing lieutenants for the joint battlefield
Article Abstract:
The aspect of training at The Basic School (TBS) that could be enhanced is the instruction given to lieutenants in regard to organization and capabilities of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air force. As the U.S. Marine Corps operates closely with both the Army and Air Force in the global war on terrorism (GWOT), it is essential that lieutenants understand not only the limitations, but also the capabilities of the Army and Air Force.
