Integrated warfare systems office consolidates programs, cuts costs

The US Navy's Integrated Warfare Systems Program Executive Office (IWS PEO) has marked the transformation in an office that inherited 27 different programs with 528 employees for those who oversee development and acquisition at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). It is directed to integrate the software programs for combat systems on all ships and submarines and must coordinate antisubmarine warfare area projects across the other program executive officers.

Tanker basing limitations posed challenge during operation Iraqi Freedom air campaign
Article Abstract:
The lack of basing for aerial tankers and the slow pace of some Marine Corps unmanned aircraft were some of the problems faced by the U.S. forces during the Operation Iraqi Freedom. The availability of big-wing tankers was the only one significant limitation to operations by naval aviation during the successful war to overthrow Saddam Hussein and liberate Iraq.
