Russia boosts counterinsurgency efforts in North Caucasus
Article Abstract:
Russia's repeated lack of success in tackling its insurgency problems leads it to reexamine its strategy that till date relied on traditional force structures and efforts are on to provide Russian special forces with a higher level of training and better equipment. The transformation of Russia's counterinsurgency capabilities is not going to be easy and the different factors hindering its progress are examined.

Italian law enforcement turns spotlight on Calabrian mafia
Article Abstract:
Nine men were arrested in Calabria, Italy, on 21 March 2006, accused of involvement in the murder of Francesco Fortugno, the deputy president of Calabria's regional parliament. Pierro Grasso, Italy's national anti-mafia prosecutor stated that the arrests marked the end of the first phase of the investigation, but that it would continue in order to discover the motive for the killing and who ordered the murder.
