Article Abstract:
Latvia has considered it prudent to create a Latvian Air Force with diversified military capabilities so that the country could confront various threats particularly asymmetric ones In spite of NATO's assurance of guaranteeing the safety of its airspace by their own means. Col. Juris Makialovs, Commander of the Latvian Air Force, describes the steps taken to create the country's air force among which commenced with the strategic political decision of building of the Lleivarde airfield as the base of Latvia's air assets.

Major General Khaled Abdullah Al-Buainain, Commander of the UAE Air Force and Air Defence Force discussed about the current status of his service and future oriented plans. He stated that by the end of the decade the UAE Air Force will have a highly developed combat fleet with more than 140 latest-generation combat aircraft including MIRAGE 2000-9s and F-16E/Fs.
