Article Abstract:
The Naval Air Systems Command has awarded two contracts to Eagan, MN-based Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense Systems (LMTDS) that are collectively worth $117.7 million. The contracts involve upgrades to the Navy's P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft. One contract worth $72.2 million requires LMTDS to provide 12 antisurface warfare improvement program (AIP) kits and install eight previously purchased AIP kits. The second contract worth $45.5 million calls for the company to provide 17 block modification upgrade program kits.

Type 45 AAW destroyer prime contractor appointed
Article Abstract:
UK-based Marconi Electronic Systems announced on Nov 23, 1999, that it had been appointed the prime contractor for the Royal Navy's Type 45 anti- aircraft warfare (AAW) destroyer program and the appointment has passed to UK firm BAE Systems. BAE Systems' shipyard at Scotstoun, UK, will reportedly build the first destroyer, but it has been said that UK shipbuilder Vosper Thornycroft will also be part of the design team and will be in a position to bid to build later-Type 45 AAWs.

Royal Navy's new DDGs: major role for BAE systems
Article Abstract:
BAE Systems, formerly Marconi Electronic Systems, has been designated by the UK Defense Procurement Agency (DPA) as prime contractor for the Type 45 anti-air warfare destroyer program. BAE Systems has received a Preparation for Demonstration contract and is expected to receive a Demonstration and First of Class Manufacture contract by the end of 2000. The DPA, however, is still fleshing out the details of its contract with BAE Systems for the second destroyer.
