Mission packages for maritime patrol aircraft

Article Abstract:

Maritime Patrol Aircraft (AMP) requires extended loitering time, huge speed advantage over its prey and practical invulnerability from submarine weapons to become priceless assets in anti-submarine warfare (ASW) in the 21st century. The sensor suite requires a wide range of different sensor systems that allow AMPs to make a positive visual identification without the need to come closer to its target. In addition, the availability of appropriate warning/countermeasure systems in the AMP's self-protection suite improves its defense against weapons launched from a submarine.

The market for Mine Counter-measure Vessels (MCMVs) passed through a very hectic period from early '80s to the mid-90's when the most important navies worldwide commissioned their new classes that involved a significant technological and shipbuilding effort with the passage from minesweeping to minehunting. High speed and long endurance, sensors for high degree of situational awareness and sleath above and below the surface are some of the new denominations for future MCMVs.
